SLC Green Team Explores Windmill Point History
Over two hundred years ago, a windmill was built on Easton Street in Cornwall, ON, which served as a gristmill for the area. As Cornwall (at that time New Johnstown) grew, the mill could not sustain the increasing population of the town, so a larger water-powered mill was built near the waterfront. The old windmill was then abandoned. On the same site as the old windmill, on September 19, 2001, a 10-storey (30 metre) wind turbine was unveiled on the Cornwall Campus of St. Lawrence College. The turbine is a symbol of cooperation between St. Lawrence College, The St. Lawrence River Institute of Environmental Sciences, and Ontario Power Generation.
