Wet and Wonderful Water Festival!

Linda Halliday, from Ontario Power Generation, presents Robert Gratton, Coordinator of the Children's Water Festival, with a donation for this year's event at Upper Canada Village. Thank you to Ms. Halliday and to OPG for their continued support!

Over 1,100 elementary students, their teachers and parents visited last week's wettest-yet edition of the Eastern Ontario Children's Water Festival! The near-constant rain and cold temperatutes did not dampen the spirits of our energetic volunteers from l'École secondaire catholique La Citadelle, who once again did a great job presenting activities at the 3-day event held at Upper Canada Village.

The goal of the Children's Water Festival is to teach young people about the importance and fragility of our water resources in a fun, interactive setting. As an encouraging sign that we are reaching our goal, many parents and teachers who were attending the Festival for the second or third time remarked that since their last visit, their students have become Water Ambassadors at home and at school. After visiting the Water Festival, they encourage everyone around them to use water wisely and to prevent water pollution - valuable lessons indeed!

Congratulations to all our volunteers and to River Institute staff for a job well done!
