Rotary Adventures in the Environment

Six students from Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, and Northern New York spent four action-packed days working with scientists from the River Institute. Sponsored by the Cornwall Sunrise Rotary Club, Rotary Adventures in the Environment gives senior high school students an opportunity to explore career options in science through hands-on experiments in environmental science and field biology. From September 18 - 21, the students were collecting fish and other aquatic organisms in the river, performing laboratory identification and analyses, learning about plant biodiversity at Cooper Marsh, discovering features of an old growth forest in Mullin Forest, identifying and performing tree measurements, and joining a bat research expedition at Lafleche caves. During their stay in Cornwall, the students also participated in the Great Canadian Shoreline Garbage Clean-up along the Cornwall waterfront.
