International Students at the River Institute
Adrien Moreau is visiting the River Institute on a 3 month internship from ESIP (Ecole Superieure d’ingenieurs de Poitiers) in Poitiers, France, where he is studying engineering. His work at the River Institute involves investigative research on biofilms and their role in river ecology. Adrien is studying methods for sampling and measuring bacteria such as E.coli in biofilms that accumulate on rocks and plants in freshwater systems.
Pauline Durand and Lauriane Dagorn are engineering students at ENGEES (Ecole Nationale du Genie de l’Eau et de l’Environnement de Strasbourg) in Strasbourg, France. They are visiting the River Institute this summer for a 4 week internship to learn about environmental research in Canada, and to get some hands-on experience. As research assistants, they are helping to sample sediments, invertebrates, and fish in the St. Lawrence River. They are also involved in the ongoing fish radio-tracking work supervised by Dr. Brian Hickey.
Adrien, Pauline, and Lauriane are also utilizing this opportunity to visit Ontario and practice their English!
